This piece is a custom designed mirror panel I did in “Verre Églomisé” style for an upscale interior designer client.

I first started painting the glass with vitreous paints and silver stain, and then fired the design in a kiln.

The next step was painting the shade and colors on the bird with transparent enamels. Then a second firing.

For the last step, I added a thin layer of 21k Moon Gold Leaf for a soft silver effect. I lightly distressed the surface and layered the leaf on imperfectly… adding a bit of copper mica into the gaps to accentuate it.

Voila!

The finished piece looks very Verre Églomisé !!!

This technique lends itself well to backsplashes, bar mirrors, and tiled mirror backdrops. I’ve even seen it used in a bathroom to a beautiful effect. Contact me at smfelixart@gmail.com to commission your special project.
